All Time Favorite

This is my husband's all time favorite food, a peanut butter and strawberry jelly bagel. I've seen it so many times I just had to paint one. Mmm Mmm good.

Two Stacked Cups

I painted these stacked cups with the hopes of making the shadows on the cups the same value as the surface. I reworked it too many times but all's well that ends well. I'm inspired by DPW's new ArtByte  Collective Insight on Blocks.  Eight artists talk about what blocks them and how they moved through it. It's comforting that we all experience the same things and even though we are alone in our paintings, we aren't alone in how it feels.

Strawberries

My husband bought these strawberries for me to paint. I love the colors of them, it makes me think spring. Well, it's spring somewhere in the world if not in the northeast.  The clear glass bowl was a challenge and came out a little choppy.  My only excuse is that my neighbor had 29 trees removed yesterday and although the light into my studio is lovely, I mourn the life of those majestic old trees.

Ceramic Bull

A friend gave me this small ceramic bull with a hole in its back. She bought it on her travels and knew I liked it. She's a sweet friend and because of that I just wanted to say thank you.

Blue Mug and Orange Slices Painting Process

Every once in a while I take images of my painting process and thought I'd share them, but I had forgotten about them. Today going through my files from last week I found them so here they are from set-up to messy drawing and then painting in.

Blue Mug and Orange Slices

This painting is from last week before I took a family vacation these past five days. I came back and was able was to get a good digital image today.  The best times for photographing my paintings are at about 10:30 AM in west open shade and at 3:00 PM on the shaded east side of my house. Both times need to be on sunny days, otherwise the image has a lot of glare or is grayed-down. That sort of limits my choices here in the northeast during the winter. Oh well. I am happy with this painting and glad to be posting it.

Red Onion

I get a lot of joy looking at Linda Hunt's paintings. Her brushwork is luscious and her paintings are filled with light.  I love her color sensibility and wide use of colors. Her compositions are interesting but each item is rendered simply.  I chose to paint a version of one of her painting for this week's DPW challenge which increased my admiration of her wonderful work. This is my tribute to Linda Hunt.

Watermelon

The feature article in this month's issue of The Artist's Magazine is The 10 Winners of Our Over 60 Competition. In Bill McEnroe's story he states, "when I think I'm two-thirds of the way through, I quit, and I'm usually glad I did because over-working is the bane of the industrious. " I guess he knows what he's talking about because Bill is 90 years old and has been painting a long time. I painted my watermelon loose and when I was tempted to start fiddling with it, I took Bill's advice and quit.
