Piper

Piper is a commission. She's a terrier/shitzu mix. She was rescued from a home at 4 months where she lived with 20 kittens!  She's now a little 9 month old who I'm told is curious like a cat.

Pastel Paintings

Olana Red Barn

Olana Hudson River View

Above are two of my pastel drawings from Susan Ogilvie's workshop at the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops. The workshop started on Monday and each morning she begins with a sketch and then a pastel drawing demonstration. It's so helpful to watch her. I'm definitely getting the feel of using soft pastels and her insight on colors is so helpful.

The Art Critic

Here's a little dog from the Stockade Art Show. It happened that this art critic allowed me to take his picture. I think I captured his excitement as he walked around looking at all the art. I could tell he was on a mission.

Stockade Art Show 2013

It was a chilly start to the day.

There were lots of people.
Two old dogs and a display for dog portraits.
I couldn't resist taking an image of this happy fellow.

Five Plums

I planned this composition for the DPW's Noton Challenge of week Aug. 25th. I took an image of this arrangement with my iPhone's ValueViewer app. The noton image which appeared made an interesting abstract design and fit well within the square format of my panel.

Scallions with Two Radishes

I'm happy with this painting. That's because I have been pushing myself to paint more challenging compositions. I try to paint what I see and not make up anything when in doubt.

White Bowl and Lemons

The beginning of September is a busy time for me as I am getting ready for the Schenectady  Stockade Art Show. I always look forward to seeing the works of other artists I know and talking with the friendly crowds. This painting was completed on the 2nd day when I painted the blue stripe inside the bowl. It made the all the difference.

Rose of Sharon 2013

Every summer my Rose of Sharon bush blooms and I'm reminded that I planted it in order to paint its flowers. Every summer I do. Today there are only a few flowers left. It's a sign that summer's almost over and it's now September 1st.
