Exciting News

I just had the most wonderful news. My painting Tulips in Jar has been accepted into the Cooperstown Art Association's National Juried Exhibition. It's been a great month. A couple of weeks ago, my painting Big Reflected Cherries was awarded the Symanarts Painters Prize at the Annual Essential Art Regional Juried Art Show in Cooperstown, NY and sold. These are my first two non-local juried shows.

Teal Cup on Green

I tried to eliminate as much detail as possible, except for the background which was the fun part of painting this picture. I bought this cup and saucer at an antiques festival last summer and have plans on going again next month. I look for colored glass dishes and plastic plates and cups. So much fun.

Viewed from Above

I was fascinated by a painting I saw many years ago hanging at the Alumni Center at SUNY@Albany. It was a large still life painting using overhead perspective. I recently saw it again and this painting was inspired by it, but created on a much smaller scale. I like the perspective and how it abstracts the objects, making them just shapes and colors. Something worth exploring.

Pink Bowl and Oranges

The first version of this composition didn't work, so I scraped it off and tried something new. Here's a quote by  Marcel Proust, "Art resides not in the superficial appearance of the subject, but at a depth where that appearance matters little." I have to thank my husband for this quote and he reminds me that I have to try to go beyond mere representation and inject something of myself into the painting.
