Meditation in Motion

I'm always working to improve my drawing skills, but also to pick something that inspires a painting.  It's hard to choose. Sometimes I draw just to be creative, when I can't paint and when life gets either too busy or crazy. When I draw I can focus on the lines and it feels like meditation in motion.

Green Vaseline Glass Cup and Saucer Drawing.

Now that I'm not teaching for a while, it's time to get back to drawing and painting. I bought a small Moleskin Sketchpad at Grand Central Terminal on my way through NYC, but it's been sitting in my desk drawer. I didn't realize what a nice surface it has. Easy to draw and erase on. I hope to make drawing a daily habit again.

Cantaloupe Wedges

This painting Cantaloupe Wedges was painted after doing a demo for my color theory workshop on analogous lightening and darkening and complementary colors.  It was a fun class and I was rewarded with dedicated and engaged students. To see their work view my Instagram page.

A Color Theory Workshop @ Arlene's Artist Materials

Learn how to use analogous and complementary colors to create eye-catching oil paintings. You'll learn how to compose a painting, learn paint mixing using the color wheel and how to simplify your brushwork to give your work a sculptural, painterly quality.  Demos, painting exercises and one-on-one attention will be provided. Students will be able to create a colorful still life and become a more confident painter in their chosen subject matter, all while having fun.

A nice way to see my work

I received the email below with these photos of my paintings on the wall mounted sconce shelves. I was surprised and delighted to see how they were displayed in this couple's recently renovated kitchen.

"Robin,
We finally hung your fourth painting on our series wall. We are so excited! It now finishes our wall in our newly renovated kitchen. It was so nice meeting you. Thanks for this purchase of your “Asparagus”. We love your work.
Here some photos for your portfolio.
