Apples and Glass

Here is another glass painting where I've been mindful of how I paint the background through the glass, the apple's reflection and highlights. I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm a slow painter and sometimes I wish I could just knock these off in a couple of hours. That way I might even be able to paint another one.

Arrangement of Oranges 4

In this arrangement I've added a pink nubby bowl (fun). The pink bowl was challenging because I wanted to get the outside of the glass color and the back of the glass color to be realistic and keep the pink hues and view of objects behind it, highlights, nubbies, etc. Whew. I worked on this still life off and on for a couple of days, working on sections wet-on-wet. That works when I don't have a long stretch of time to paint. All four Arrangement of Oranges were painted from different points of view and this last one was almost directly ahead as opposed to the first which had an aerial view.  I had a lot of fun with these oranges but it's time to move on to something new.

Marion's Roses

My neighbor Marion has a beautiful flower garden. There were some pale yellow roses that seem to appear and disappear quickly, luckily I took some images of them hoping to paint them. I think this one is a good choice for the Upstate Artist Monthly Painting Challenge, whose theme this month is movement.

Arrangement of Oranges 3

Here is a third version of the still life I've been working on. Today I felt like I knew the objects so the painting was in a sense easier to execute.  I'm happy with the outcome:) It's looser and has grays, as I have been working toward this.  I also added a blue glass pitcher.  I know not every painting will make me happy so today I'll just enjoy it.

Arrangement of Oranges 2

Here's another view of the still life I've been working on.  I rotated it, changed the position of some things and added another white object. The other arrangement was painted under natural light but because it was overcast today, this one was painted using artificial (halogen) light. These colors are more intense. Tomorrow I'll be painting outdoors and am really looking forward that.

Arrangement of Oranges

I've been trying to paint looser and it has taken me some time. I think the effort has paid off and my somewhat success here feels good.  I have a few more 12" x 12" panels on which I might work the same still life but from different views.

Cupcake

I was attracted to the frosting on this cupcake. It had swirls of colors and ridges that were fun to paint. I've found little cakes like this last a long time in their box. It might work out that I can keep it for another painting. Happy Mother's Day mom.

Old Prius

I took some time off from painting and now I'm having the hardest time getting back into it. Ugh.  I figured I'd post this so people don't think I've fallen off totally.  I call paintings I post "blogworthy". This is getting there and, anyway, our monthly challenge for UAMPC is "Movement".  So this Prius is cute and colorful but not quite in line with the way I view things.  I'll keep plugging away until I find my way again. If anyone wants to know why I'm not on Facebook anymore, I got hacked not once but twice and decided to spend my time painting instead of  tying to figure it out.
