Two Cups and Plum

This painting took me several days to complete. One day to set up the still life and draw it in, one day to paint the top cup and today to complete the rest. All the while working to keep my paint application lusciously thick and simple.

Peach Tea and Orange Slices

I just returned from a two-day workshop with Karen O'Neil at the Woodstock School of Art. Her paintings are eye candy for me and she's a great teacher. Here's a painting I just completed that's more abstract than my usual.  It is all about 6 key principles when painting: value -light/dark, saturated verses neutral and temperature -warm/cool.

Purple Cup and Lemons

I'm still painting lemons and looking at colors and values. Meanwhile, I've noticed that this is my 492nd blog post. That means I'm 8 away from my 500th post. It has been an amazing experience. I started by painting 100 small paintings before considering starting a blog. My goal was to paint a lot so that I'd become a better painter. These are some things that I've learned: I'm told I have a recognizable style, I'm familiar with my color palette, I'm confident I can work out problems and if not I can start again.  I'm able to pick myself up when I feel like my work is less than wonderful and still love to paint. Lastly, I really appreciate all the nice comments and support of people who have viewed my blog. Thank you.

I Guess I Wasn't Done (Mrs. London's Bakery Completed)

I said I'd put this painting away, but when it's sitting on my easel, that's hard to do. The problem with a home studio is that I can walk by a painting a dozen times after I said I'm done, and still find things to work on. So my painting has been banished to another room and I won't look at it again all weekend.

Mrs. London's Bakery

I've almost completed this painting. I have all the objects, marble tabletop and wood border painted. There are still some adjustments I want to make, but for now I'll put it aside. It's time to move on.

Stange Shadows 3

I am the proud owner of Jo Mackenzie's watercolor Strange Shadows 3
I can't wait to get it in the mail and I have just the right spot for it in my home!
