Bookshelf Days 5 & 6

Yesterday I worked on this painting, but didn't post, so today I'm posting for two days worth the almost completed painting. I'm taking a few days off and then I'll look at it with fresh eyes. Next time I'll tweak whatever needs fixing and then put it away for a show in September. I hope whoever was following along enjoyed watching how this painting progressed and is inspired to do their own big painting.

Bookshelf Day 4

This past weekend I didn't paint because my drawing wasn't clear, so I tidied it up. Today I got back to painting and almost completed half of the third shelf. The thing that holds this painting together (I think), and is a new thing for me, is that I've used the paint from my palette that I've collected into a pile at the end of the day and used it to mute other colors.
For those who think that posting progress shots of a painting is intimidating because it might not work out, I say do it if you want to and if it doesn't work, explain why.

Bookshelf Day 3

Every day, when I get more done on this painting, I feel more comfortable. In actuality, I'm having fun. It's just developing on its own and the painting tells me in which direction to go. That may sound crazy, but I have a feeling it's not that uncommon.

Bookshelf Day 2

An artist friend asked where is the center of interest in your painting? That was a great question. I'm figuring it out and have some ideas, but I don't want to give away too much yet. I thought it would be fun to post my progress. If anyone has any painting tips to help the viewer's eye move around the canvas or create a focal point, l'd like to know.

Bookshelf

I recently saw the movie Interstellar. I enjoy sci-fi movies and particularly the ones with a strong science base. I thought the idea of painting a bookshelf reminiscent of the one in the movie would be interesting, no ghosts but a lot of great authors. This is the preliminary drawing.

Farmers' Market Bread Line

This dog was content to take in the sights while his human stood on the artisan bread line at the Sunday farmers' market. I don't paint a lot of clothes and I'm happy with how the pants came out.
