Blue Pitcher on Floral Cloth

Here's my finished painting. I left the blue pitcher to paint last. I like the rich blue color and the abstract design the swirls make. Thanks for following my progress. I hope you enjoy the completed painting.

Large Still Life Days 4 & 5

Here's an the image of my painting at the end of day four. As I finished up painting that day, I was happy with the background. My goal was to push it back and I did that by graying the colors and lightening the values.

Here's where I finished up today. I'm not rushing so when I came to a good place to stop, I stepped away and ended for the day.

Pet Portrait Postcard

I created this online postcard yesterday.  I have to thank Patti Vincent again for her advice regarding pet portrait commissions.  I love painting dogs, whether as commissions or just for fun.

Athena's Portrait

I painted Athena's portrait for this week's DPW "The Creative Color Challenge". This might not look as if I altered Athena's coloring but I have. I've taken my inspiration from Jo Mackenzie and started  with a Notan drawing and kept it as my guide. I used three values of gray, brown and blue. I also want to thank Patti for a great challenge and for her advice regarding pet portrait commissions.

Blue Pitcher on Tropical Cloth Days 2 & 3

Here are the images of my painting from days two and three. I'm working from one object to the adjoining one, trying to keep it all cohesive. That's one of my goals for this painting.

Blue Pitcher on Tropical Cloth

My New Year's resolution was to paint one larger painting a month. I liked my last large painting but it was a bit sparse. This month's still life has a lot more objects. But wow, it's taken me all day to draw. What should I start painting first? Should it be my favorite, the hardest thing, the easiest, or the "island"? I'll have to decide tomorrow.

Oil Paint Tube

I discovered that opened tubes of paint don't last forever. Adding medium wasn't helping me get a smooth consistency. I came to the conclusion I had to replace those paint tubes that just weren't working.
Here's a  tip from a Utrecht Art Supplies "Ask the Experts" representative :
"You can reduce the chance of paint drying in the tube by keeping caps and tube threads clean so containers can be tightly resealed. Avoid leaving air space in the tube by squeezing paint to the spout top before capping. A small amount of essential oil of clove can be dabbed inside caps to reduce skinning, but this should not be introduced on the palette or colors may be very slow to dry."

White Stacked Cups

A white still life for a change of pace. This was my second attempt at this painting and after a few touch-ups this morning I was pleased with the outcome. It's those darn ellipses that are so challenging.

Merlot and Oranges

I needed to paint something colorful today and lose myself in the warm colors of orange, yellow and green. I had an old empty bottle of Georges Duboeuf Merlot and it was the perfect complement to the oranges and blue plate.

Pogo Sitting

Here's another Pogo portrait. In this one he's more dignified, not a wild Cujo-like dog as in my last painting. I hope my friend likes my paintings.

Pogo with Ball

Last weekend I dog-sat for an artist friend. I love poodles and she has a miniature black poodle so I was excited to spend time with him. Pogo was all cuddly and kisses. However, after a few days of playing ball with my husband, Pogo let go of his shyness. I'll paint him again and try to capture his sweet personality.
