CSA Beets

My husband picked up our vegetables this week When I saw these beets I knew just how I wanted to paint them, with lots of movement and color.

Mill Road 2

I'm really having a good time painting landscapes.

Mill Road

The landscape workshop with Ann Larsen is over and I've been inspired to continue to paint  outdoors. This however was painted from a photo, but I've tried to remember the colors and atmosphere of that day. I've cooled down the green color of the trees in the distance to get a sense of space. Next post will be of a painting I did outdoors.

CSA Onions

I haven't painted onions before, well at least not successfully. My aim was to capture the translucent quality of them and I think I got it. The two colored papers beneath them make for  fun colored shadows.

Purple Coneflower and Blue Ribbon

This was a quick painting in which I tried to minimize the number of  my brushstrokes. I think it turned out bold and cheery like the little coneflower.

Woodsy Driveway

This painting was done from a photograph of a friend's driveway. I liked the bright spot at the end of the road. I'm branching out, no pun intended, and I'm trying to do landscapes.

Jalapeno Peppers Reflected

This painting was going great while I was working on the peppers. I found the bowl challenging and it took me several tries and days to get it so it works. I'm happy with it now. They say that nothing worthwhile is easy!

Three Cherries and Teal Glass Jar

It's great when you can visualize a painting even before you have the objects in front of you. It doesn't happen often but with this painting it almost did. I thought about the color combination and went out and bought the cherries. It only confirms what I hoped would happen when I started painting daily; painting often helps you become familiar with your material and it opens you up to seeing things in a different way.

Stacked White Cups

This is an earlier painting that was on my website before I had a blog.  I wanted to paint white objects and try my hand at grays.

Who painted this portrait?

I'm not a portrait painter but am lucky to know who did this one of me. It's Michelle Winnie and you can look at her work at http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/michelle-winnie.html
