I always liked painting apples, although I haven't painted a green one in a while. I painted this apple almost life-sized and it's great to use a big brush again. I'm going to have to remember to paint larger which is a good idea for small canvases. Anyway, this image is not quite accurate. The light blue spot on the bottom left of the apple isn't as light or bright in my painting. All the images I took turned out like this so I decided to just accept it and post it as is.

I love it, Robin.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about this painting. The composition, brushwork, and the color. Bravo!!
ReplyDeleteI cannot get all I have to say on a 6 x 6. So you mentioned painting larger on small canvases. There is where I get stuck painting everything by sight-sizing....painting things the size that I actually see them. For me it's a rut and is holding me back from painting on smaller boards. How do you like painting with such small brushes? I love this apple. Everything about it appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, your work is beautiful and I wouldn't change anything! But you're right, working small can be confining especially if the composition gets too busy. That's when I pare it down to either one or a few simple objects and concentrate on the things that I enjoy painting like colors and reflections. It still takes me a while to work out the right size for my small canvas and sometimes I have to do a couple of sketches before I find what works. Small brushes are best used for final details. Well that's what I continually remind myself.
ReplyDeleteLovin this blue.
ReplyDeleteWow, superb artworks! I like your style!
